One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is connecting people with their loved ones on the other side. I particularly like it when I get to connect to spirits who have a sense of humor and use creative ways to connect to their loved ones.
Amy is, to date, one of the most unique spirits I have connected with. Mark came to me to connect with his sister Amy in the fall of 2009. Amy came through right away and started to describe family events and other events specific to Mark.
Then it started; it was faint at first, then got progressively louder. I could hear very distinctly the Journey song, "Don't Stop Believin'." I kept hearing the words "Just a small town girl" over and over.
When I conveyed this to Mark, it somewhat resonated in that he was a big music lover and had been in several bands. I continued to give Mark messages from Amy and then it happened again. This time it was "Holding Out For a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler. The words "I need a hero" kept playing over and over in my head.
This time the song did not have any significant meaning to Mark. I was slightly taken aback. It did not make sense, as the song was playing very clearly in my head.
A month had passed and I got another call from Mark. He explained how everything made sense now; he had talked to his older sister and told her about his session with me. When he told her about the Journey song, she told him that it was not only Amy's favorite song, Journey was the last concert they had gone to.
The next part I will never forget. When he told his sister about the "I need a hero," she began to cry. She called for her son and asked him to lift up his sweatshirt. He was wearing a T-shirt with the words "I need a hero" on it. Her son had received the T-shirt as a birthday gift a full month after Mark's session.
After a few months, Amy paid me an unexpected visit. While I was walking Sammi, my sweet Westie, my eye caught a shiny object. As I approached the object, I noticed it was a CD. When I looked at it closer, I saw the Journey wings and heard the words, "Tell Mark not to worry, he is going to close the deal."
When I looked at the CD again, I began to laugh out loud; turns out it was actually a discarded instructional English CD. I called Mark to tell him the message. He laughed and told me that he had gotten a call earlier that day and he was on his way to close a deal he had been working on for six months.
Our loved ones never truly leave us, we keep them alive with our memories and the things we do to honor them. They let us know they are still with us by showing us signs, whether it be their favorite song that plays on the radio, or a bird that seems to always appear when you think of them. Our job is to slow down and pay attention to the little things in life. You never know who may be trying to connect with you.
