On Saturday, Nov. 20, Chicago Therapy Collective will release an original music video cover of Wildfires (Sault, 2020) in honor of Trans Day of Resilience (TDOR) 2021 and the racial justice uprisings of 2020.
According to a press release, "the TDOR Wildfires cover will showcase the beauty, power and resilience of Trans people while highlighting the intersections of anti-trans violence, anti-Black violence and criminal injustice in Chicago and across the country." Wildfires will feature artists: Sette Klima, Uzo, Naxo, Crispin Torres (of Deep Fake), Kai Black (of Orison) and Darling Squire.
This year's TDOR event (slated for 2 p.m. on the same day with a livestream of Wildfires) and release of Wildfires will also serve as a call to action to confront the violence rampant against trans communities with the coordinated release of (1) a call for Chicagoans to take action to support HB2542, (a piece of state legislation vital to trans liberation and dignity that addresses Illinois having one of the most restrictive name-change barriers in the country); (2) resources to combat suicide amongst the trans community; (3) statements from American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Sean Connolly, "drag therapist" Alex Jenny, state Sen. Mike Simmons, 40th Ward Ald. Andre Vasquez, Equality Illinois' Myles Brady Davis and Chicago Therapy Collective Board President Alexis Martinez Board; and (4) a press tool kit designed to support the media in advancing trans-inclusionary reporting and explaining the urgent need to rename Trans Day of Remembrance to Trans Day of Resilience.
Event sponsors include American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Howard Brown Health Center, Equality Illinois, Chicago House, Human Rights Campaign Chicago, the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and Simmons.
