CHICAGO, February 15, 2017—Chicago Gay Men's Chorus will honor girl groups in Lipstick & Lyrics: The Dragtones at Uptown Underground on Friday, February 24, 2017 and Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM each night.
This year's vivacious, no-lip-syncing drag extravaganza delves into the world of girl group stardom, asking our queens to emulate such groups as the Spice Girls, Andrew Sisters, Destiny's Child, and En Vogue with throwbacks to The Marvelettes, The Chordettes, and Diana Ross and The Supremes. The performances will showcase premiere drag talent from the hardWERKING members of CGMC. With 25 drag queens, 11 dancers, and 25 musical numbers, The Dragtones is sure to delight Chicago audiences looking for a good time. Expect a drag-packed evening featuring harmonies from the Boswell Sisters and intense dance numbers from The Pussycat Dolls. With nods to current pop cultural icons and beloved classics, The Dragtones is covering all the bases. CGMC's Artistic Director, James Morehead said, "It will be a grand evening of wonderful three part harmony of girl groups with live singing and wonderful drag!"
The idea for this year's L&L was proposed by the show's director and chorus member Marty Miller. "We saved it for a season when we could program girl groups for Lipstick & Lyrics and boybands for the May show," said Morehead. Last year's show focused on a group of queens trying to save the Unicorn Club with a vast array of sultry and sweet solo numbers. This year all the queens will have three different numbers in different combinations. "There is no storyline, but it is a whirlwind of fantastic music and enticing performances," Morehead commented.
When asked why people should come and see this show, Morehead remarked, "This might be the best variety girl group show performed by drag queens ever. No, actually this might be the only time you can catch an evening of such entertainment. Live singing! Fantastic drag! Awesome songs! Great venue!"

Special VIP receptions both nights start at 7:00pm for the 8:00 pm show and include reserved seating and a beverage from the bar. Only $50 a ticket and they are very limited. General Admission tickets are $25 and seating is on a first come, first served basis. A limited number of Reserved tickets are available for both 10:00pm shows. ABOUT CHICAGO GAY MEN'S CHORUS
The Chicago Gay Men's Chorus ( CGMC ) has been an integral part of Chicago's cultural and gay communities since 1983. For more than three decades, the chorus has entertained audiences across the continent with innovative musical programming exploring everything from love to politics to the sometimes fabulous, sometimes challenging world of being gay; often all at the same time. Most recently, CGMC represented Chicago's LGBT community at Mayor Rahm Emanuel's second-term inauguration ceremony. The chorus proudly sang "America the Beautiful" for the Illinois Marriage Equality Act bill-signing ceremony and was the featured guest choral performer for the star-studded concert, Broadway Rocks, with the Grant Park Music Festival in 2011. Chicago Gay Men's Chorus was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2001 and currently has four CD recordings available. CGMC has performed the National Anthem multiple times at world-famous Wrigley Field and for the WNBA Chicago Sky and Chicago's professional soccer team, Chicago Fire.
