CHICAGO — Equality Illinois, the state's oldest and largest LGBT advocacy organization, will host its annual Celebrity Pie Toss fundraiser on Saturday, July 23 from 2 to 5pm at Sidetrack (3349 N. Halsted Street) in Chicago. This year's participants include well-known TV personalities, politicos, journalists, and non-profit leaders. Headliners include WGN's nationally-known chief meteorologist TOM SKILLING and popular entertainment reporter DEAN RICHARDS, Representative KELLY CASSIDY, newly-elected Alderman JAMES CAPPLEMAN, filmmaker KY DICKENS, Time Out Magazine's JASON HEIDEMAN, and Congressman MIKE QUIGLEY. Other confirmed participants include GREG BAIRD, BERNARD CHERKASOV, JAMAL EDWARDS, SAUCY FIREWATER, DALILA FRIDI, JEREMY GOTTSCHALK, KEVIN HAUSWIRTH, CHAD MYER, MIKE SIMMONS, and members of the CHICAGO GAY HOCKEY LEAGUE. MCs are lesbian comic CAMERON ESPOSITO and funnyman BRADLEY THOMAS.
The event raises visibility about Equality Illinois' mission of securing equal rights for LGBT individuals in Illinois and brings in much-needed resources for the organization's legislative work in Springfield and educational work across the State.
"LGBT equality is so urgent that we'll do anything to shore up as much support as possible for this important issue — even take a pie in the face," said Equality Illinois CEO Bernard Cherkasov.
The Celebrity Pie Toss, which is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, will take place from 2 to 5 pm on July 23, and will be hosted by Sidetrack in its outdoor bar. Media sponsors are BestGayChicago.com, Gay Chicago Magazine, and MTMChicago.com .
###
Equality Illinois was founded in 1991 to secure, protect and defend full equality for lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender people. It is the State's largest LGBT-advocacy organization.
