||COVID Southern Illinois reports it has zero ICU beds available

Amid a COVID-19 surge, Illinois' southern region reported Sept. 13-14 that it ran out of intensive care unit (ICU) bedswhich has delayed surgeries and resulted in longer waits for appropriate care, The Chicago Tribune reported.
In the latest Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) count released Sept. 14, the state's southern region reported that its hospitals had no available ICU beds in an area that includes approximately 400,000 people. As of Sept. 14, 19 hospitals in that region still had zero open ICU beds.
This week was the first time IDPH reported that any of the state's 11 state-designated health regions had no available ICU beds.
