San Francisco's 2020 Pride Parade and Celebration, which had been scheduled for June 27-28, has been officially cancelled amid coronavirus concerns, according to media reports.
This year was to mark the celebration's 50th anniversaryand it is the first time the event has been cancelled.
"We know what Pride symbolizes for San Francisco and to LGBTQ+ people around the world," said San Francisco Pride board President Carolyn Wysinger in a statement. "We know our decision means disappointment, canceled plans and one less thing for us all to look forward to. We also know that protecting the safety of all our communities is the most important."
Between 900,000 and 1 million people40 percent from out of townwere expected to gather in the city for the event.
Regarding Chicago, word still has not officially come in regarding its Pride Parade.
