FROM A NEWS RELEASE

Sept. 5, 2009

CHICAGO ( September 4, 2009 ) — Broadway In Chicago is proud to announce the complete 2010 Broadway In Chicago Season Series.

The shows included in the 2010 Season Series are Billy Elliot the Musical, Shrek The Musical, August: Osage County, NETworks presentation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and The 39 Steps; the selection of shows continue to emphasize Broadway In Chicago's long-standing commitment to bringing the best of Broadway to Chicago. Season subscriptions go on sale Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 10 a.m.

BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL

Begins March 18, 2010

One of the most celebrated shows in years, Billy Elliot the Musical has captured hearts worldwide, delighted the critics and swept the awards, winning ten 2009 Tony® Awards including BEST MUSICAL! Billy Elliot is a joyous, exciting and feel-good celebration of one boy following his heart and making his dreams come true. Called "THE MOST INSPIRING SHOW I'VE SEEN IN YEARS" ( Ben Brantley, The New York Times ) this "LONG ANTICIPATED ELTON JOHN MUSICAL IS IMPOSSIBLE TO RESIST" ( Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune ) . Full of life, laughter, astonishing dancing and unforgettable music, this uplifting experience will stay with you forever. Based on the international smash-hit film, Billy Elliot is brought to life by the Tony-winning creative team —director Stephen Daldry, choreographer Peter Darling and writer Lee Hall — along with music legend Elton John, who has written what the New York Post calls "HIS BEST SCORE YET!"

SHREK THE MUSICAL

July 13 — September 5, 2010

Shrek The Musical, based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to life on the Broadway stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre — not a handsome prince — shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek. Featuring a terrific score of 19 all-new songs, big laughs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery, The New York Times proclaims Shrek The Musical is "TRUE HAPPINESS!" Shrek The Musical is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!

AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY

February 2 — 14, 2010

Steppenwolf's August: Osage County makes its long-awaited homecoming! Following its sold-out debut at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre in 2007, this grand, gripping new play went on to Broadway where it won five 2008 Tony Awards including Best Play and the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Now the play makes its triumphant return to Chicago as a critically acclaimed National Tour. August: Osage County tells the story of the Westons, a large extended clan that comes together at their rural Oklahoma homestead when the alcoholic patriarch disappears. Forced to confront unspoken truths and astonishing secrets, the family must also contend with Violet ( played by Academy Award-winner Estelle Parsons ) , a pill-popping, deeply unsettled woman at the center of this storm. August: Osage County is a rare theatrical event—a large-scale work filled with unforgettable characters, a powerful tale told with un -flinching honesty. The New York Times cheers, "August: Osage County is flat-out, without qualification, the most exciting new American play Broadway has seen in years," and Time Magazine named August: Osage County the "#1 Show of the Year!" The Chicago Tribune says August: Osage County is "Staggeringly ambitious, staggeringly successful" and ""A major, not-to-be-missed new American work."
