Book Signing at Eyeporium Gallery on Saturday, September 8th, 2012 from 7pm 9pm.
Eyeporium Gallery is excited to announce the publication of "Getting Into Face" that celebrates the collaboration between the performance artists JoJo Baby and Sal -E and the photographer Bernard Colbert.
This book is a visual feast of Jojo Baby and Sal- E "Getting Into Face". It is the result of a 5-year photo project documenting JoJo Baby and Sal-E on a weekly basis as they prepared for their Monday night performances at the "Boom Boom Room". Jojo and Sal are Chicago Icons and are renowned for using their bodies as canvases to become conceptual characters, executed with expert skill using original, theatrical makeup and costumes. In more than 100 portraits, photographer Bernard Colbert rigorously captures these two performance artists in genius moments as psychedelic Hindi gods, comic book villains, fantastical creatures, astronauts, and much more. Colbert's stunning portraits document these delightful transformations and are the same body of work featured in the Clive Barker documentary entitled JoJo Baby. Drawing from their seemingly inexhaustible well of creativity, these club kids and queer icons are always challenging each other - pushing theatrics to dizzying heights. Through Colbert's collaboration with JoJo and Sal, viewers can experience a front row seat to an ongoing show which has been entertaining club goers in Chicago for two decades.
Bernard Colbert has captured the legendary duo in visually sumptuous portraits. 52 Mondays will be on exhibit at the book signing and continue through to October 1st. JoJo Baby and Sal-E will perform 'Getting into Face' at the book launch on Saturday September 8th from 7pm to 8pm. The After-Party Lip Sync Show will be at Debonair at 1575 North Milwaukee Avenue, featuring legendary performers such as Silky Jumbo as MC.
