WHAT: "Sober & Proud" - a dance and barbecue, open to the public, celebrating Chicago Pride Week and offering music, food, and health education services.
WHY: Three years ago, residents of Bonaventure House voiced their concerns that Pride weekend was not a safe and friendly weekend for individuals recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. They decided they wanted to organize a public event that was both safe and fun. Because of this, for a third year, Bonaventure House hosts this event for people to celebrate in a sober environment. This year, Sober & Proud is also expanding to offer STI & HIV prevention resources and free rapid HIV testing. Above all, it is a Chicago Pride party!
WHERE: Bonaventure House, 825 W Wellington Ave, Chicago, IL
WHEN: Saturday, June 25th, 2011, 6:00pm - 11:00pm
HOW: Bonaventure House along with members of the community will be hosting this public event.
