The 7th Annual Black Bra Party will take place on Friday, Feb. 16, at Circuit Nightclub, 3641 N. Halsted. Chix Mix promoter Kathleen Ulm said, 'The theme is pulp fictionesque—think old [ pulp-fiction ] book covers.'
'We're working with Lavender Cabaret. They're producing live vignettes that are based on the covers of pulp-fiction books. So, [ think of ] the campy housewife having an affair with her next-door neighbor.' The vignettes will take place throughout the night.
Entertainment will also include vintage pulp-fiction footage playing on the video screens, as well as music from resident Chix Mix DJ Dani B and moves by the Chix Mix dancers, three of whom are new to the organization.
VIP tickets for the party can be purchased prior to the event at the Chix Mix Web site, www.chixmixproductions.com . The tickets are $20 and include a free T-shirt and a drink ticket as well as express entry. The night of the party tickets will be $10 at the door. 'We always encourage people to come early, otherwise they're going to be standing in line outside,' Ulm says. She also said the event will sell out, which means to expect the attendance of at least 1,000 people.
The Black Bra Party is one of the biggest Chix Mix parties of the year. Women even come from bordering states to take part.
Chix Mix is known for its inclusive and comfortable atmosphere, and Ulm pointed out that women of all ages attend the parties. Men are welcome as well, so anyone who wants to bring their guy friends should. 'The possibilities are endless as far as people who come,' Ulm said. 'There are always new faces.'
Chix Mix events scheduled for the next few months include March's St. Patrick's Party, April's Spring Break Party, May's White Party and June's Pride Party. All are held on the third Friday of the month at Circuit.
