Lesbodacious writer Kathie Bergquist (a longtime Nightlines writer) and Australian singer Martine Locke will be featured at Grinder:
Queer Words and Music Thursday, July 17 at No Exit Café, 6970 N Glenwood, starts about 8 p.m.
Bergquist was a longtime columnist of the Kathie Klub in the former Chicago weekly, Nightlines (now Nightspots), and her work
has appeared in The Advocate, OUT, Girlfriends, Curve, Diva, and the Harrington Lesbian Fiction Quarterly. To support her writing
habit, Bergquist works as a crabby bartender in an unremarkable corner tavern / biker hangout. She will be reading short stories,
ranging in subject matter from kegger parties and queer teen girls to concentration camp survivors and bored book clerks, a how-to
essay about applying for political asylum in Canada, and an assortment of surrealistic riddles and word problems.
Australian singer and songwriter Martine Locke will be kicking off her summer Midwestern tour with her performance at No Exit.

Rock in Illuzzio
Another Nightspots writer, Lisa Rock, is in a new Chicago production. The musical farce, Illuzzio (or A Man's Best Servant Is
Himself) opened at The Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division, July 10 and will run through Sunday, Sept. 14. The book and lyrics for
Illuzzio are written by Nicholas Korn, and the music is composed by Allen Lindsey. Call (773) 913-5737.
Illuzzio was first produced this past February at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in Cincinnati. See www.illuzzio.com . |
