On Dec. 4, Anthony Rapp—best known as the star of the blockbuster musical Rent—will be honored by the Bailiwick Repertory Theatre when he accepts a Trailblazer Award. The event will take place at 1229 W. Belmont at 7:15 p.m., with a pre-event reception occurring across the street at Joey's Brickhouse at 5:30 p.m.
Others who will be honored that evening with Trailblazer Awards include Sue Connolly of Northern Trust Bank, Big Chicks owner Michelle Fire, philanthropist Michael Leppen and Windy City Times senior theater critic Jonathan Abarbanel. Past winners include former Olympic diver Greg Louganis, 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney, comedian Bruce Vilanch and Windy City Times Publisher/Executive Editor Tracy Baim.
General admission tickets for the Trailblazer Awards are $50 for the dinner and awards. VIP tickets, which include priority seating, program recognition and a goodie bag, are $75. A very limited number of platinum tickets are available for $150; those include the VIP benefits already listed, plus an invitation to a private dinner party with Rapp and the other award winners on Dec. 3.
