New York, November 19, 2019 — On the heels of BET Networks' recent announcement of Lena Waithe's original scripted series "Twenties" that follows the adventures of a queer black girl, and popular digital series, "Wig Out," and compelling documentary "Holler If You Hear Me: Black and Gay in the Church," BET Networks announces the launch of "Queer As F**K!" The BET social franchise highlights the beauty, power, and diversity of the black queer community across BET's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube channels.
In the annual 'Where We Are On TV' report released by GLAAD, findings show that US TV is telling more LGBTQ stories and featuring more queer characters than ever before. There has been progress with marriage equality, LGBTQ Pride, and the "Transgender Tipping Point," but a lot of more work needs to be done when it comes to accepting and embracing LGBTQ people. BET is positioned to highlight LGBTQ stories like never before with exclusive original content for its "Queer As F**K" franchise, including the inaugural three-part documentary series, "Ballroom: A Safe Space." Premiering over three days on BET's Instagram page ( Nov. 19- Nov. 21 ), the series will give viewers a fly-on-the-wall look at the ballroom culture, ballroom categories and the royal House of LaBeija ( the first house of Ballroom ). Watch the first episode now on You Tube at www.youtube.com/watch and on Instagram athttps://www.instagram.com/p/B5DW9uDn0S_/
For more information on "Queer As F**k!" go to BET.com and use #BETQueerAF to follow the franchise on social media.
On Nov. 20, BET Networks will launch an original video in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance that highlights the 21 Transgender women of color who were killed this year. BET Social will share additional factoids to help educate readers on this epidemic and publish information the transgender community and community allies can tap into for resources.
