I set out to meet the man of my dreams earlier tonight. I know going out looking for love on a Thursday night means I'm only going to end up finding trouble, but I figured at least I might meet a tall, dark troublemaker. And I was hoping to meet him quickly so I could get home at a decent hour and not be a complete mess at work in the morning. Such high expectations for a weeknight, I know, but it seemed like a better idea than sitting at home alone. That's not why I moved here. There wasn't anyone interesting out, and I really haven't made any real friends here yet, so I was bored and contemplated just giving up and going home. I was on my third beer at my third bar and realized it was just wishful drinking. Then he walked in. A really sexy guy who was, what, Italian? Latin? Arab, maybe? He had on a black shredder shirt and jeans and I could see he had tattoos on both of his sides. Woof. I watched him talking to his friends and the words were coming out of the side of his mouth. I love guys who talk like that. I ordered another beer and tried to casually stare him down. I was willing him to look at me, but got nothing, and eye contact only works if they see you. Lacking the courage to walk up and say hello, I decided to leave. I ran into Bernita on the sidewalk outside. Her brown skin glowed under a flowing blue dress and she looked like a showgirl or backup singer. She brushed the self-pity off of me telling me that boys can smell it. She told me I was beautiful and sent me back inside with a kiss on the cheek. I'm glad I met her last weekend. So I got another final beer and took a big gulp and turned around, looking hopeless, I'm sure. He was looking at me from five feet away with a smile on his face. I lit up and I think I may have actually blushed. He walked up and I said "hi." He said hello by placing a kiss on my lips. He tasted like he was in his twenties, which is great, but made me realize that I was probably ten years old before he even existed. He pulled me onto the dance floor. The DJ started to play "Take a Walk On the Wild Side" and I thought my heart was going to pop. I'm not sure if we were really dancing or just making out and rocking side to side, but it was incredible. We pulled apart to catch our breath and he asked me how my night was. I answered him with a kiss that lasted until Thursday turned into Friday. And the colored girls go: do doo do do da do doo do doo ... |
