Author to hold talk about Chicago LGBTQ press on Feb. 9

Rick Karlinauthor of Paper Cuts: My Life in Chicago's Volatile LGBTQ Presswill discuss his experiences in the Chicago LGBTQ press as presented in the book on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. via a video conference.
Historian/writer Owen Keehnen will moderate the conversation, which Gerber/Hart Library and Archives will host.
Paper Cuts: My Life in Chicago's Volatile LGBTQ Press is the story of Karlin's life writing for Chicago's newspapers, balancing that with his family life outside of it. Karlin joined the staff at GayLife in 1978, moving on to other Chicago papers for the next four decades.
Karlin was inducted in the City of Chicago's LGBT Hall of Fame in 1997 in recognition of his career in Chicago's LGBT press with GayLife newspaper, Gay Chicago Magazine, Outlines, Nightlines, Chicago Free Press and Boi Magazine. He now serves as co-chair of the board of directors of Friends of Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame. He is also a playwright and novelist.
Keehnen is the author of several fiction and non-fiction titles, his most recent being Dugan's Bistro and the Legend of the Bearded Lady. He was inducted into the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame in 2011. |
