Local gay couple Robin Delgatto and Jason Delgatto had Indiana anti-LGBT restaurant Memories Pizza unknowingly cater their same-sex wedding, according to Robin Delgatto ( who goes by Robin Trevino on stage ).
Earlier this year, Memories' owners said they would never cater a wedding with a same-sex couple.
Trevinoa member of Chicago's GayCo Ensemble comedy troupe, which is producing a 50 States of Gay celebrationhas said he ordered two pizzas from owner Crystal O'Connor. Trevino and Delgatto exchanged vows in a celebration, and the couple served Memories Pizza to their cheering friends and family.
Robin wrote: "For our current [GayCo] production of 50 States of Gay, we chose Indiana out of a hat last week and last night [Sept. 26] performed a show inspired by that state. For my part of the show, I had a wedding ceremony. Even though my husband had a ceremony in 2008 ( when it was not legal ), and got a certificate in Iowa in 2009, we have never had a legal ceremony with a reception in Illinois. Since our chosen state was Indiana, I decided to have a ceremony last night, and on Friday, I drove to Walkerton, Indiana, to Memories Pizza and have them cater my gay wedding. … Of course, they didn't know it would be for a gay wedding."
