Statement by 35th Ward Alderman Carlos Ramirez-Rosa on today's anti-immigrant executive actions by President Trump:
Today's anti-immigrant executive actions by President Trump reaffirm the urgency for Chicago to implement the strongest policies possible to protect our immigrant families.
Now Mayor Emanuel must make the tough choice to stand with the immigrant Chicagoans targeted by President Trump's executive action threatening "sanctuary" cities. I urge Mayor Emanuel and my colleagues to oppose President Trump and strengthen Chicago's Welcoming City Ordinance by removing carve-outs and loopholes.
Trump's executive actions seek to hurt our immigrant families, Chicagoans must come together to defend and support each other from Trump's attacks. In the 35th Ward, we are coming together to defend each other by implementing our neighbor-to-neighbor deportation defense plan - organizing our community to defend itself from Trump's deportations through door-to-door outreach, know your rights workshops, and forming block level support networks.
We must not succumb to the fear President Trump seeks to foster, in these uncertain times we must love, support, and defend each other.
