Adodi Chicago elected officers for two-year terms in March.
Those voted in are: President Earnest E. Hite, Vice President Keith Judon, Treasurer Glenn Wright, Corresponding Secretary Clarence Brown and Recording Secretary Israel Wright.
The election followed a panel discussion on the setting of public policy and political activism. Panelists included representatives from the offices of U.S. Congressmen Danny Davis and Jesse Jackson Jr., from the Barack Obama for U.S. Senate campaign, and the Green Party. Discussion focused on whether gay marriage or state-recognized gay civil unions would provide couples with the same rights and benefits.
State Senator Barack Obama's legislative support for laws to ban discrimination against same-gender-loving (SGL) people in employment and public accommodations, his opposition to racial profiling by police and his support for universal healthcare and jobs creation matched positions taken by Reps. Davis and Jackson Jr. Support for these friends of our community by campaigning and voting for them was seen as critical to the best interests of our community, Adodi stated.
