PrideIndex.com, a community guide catering to LGBT African Americans, hosted a fundraiser at Sidetrack May 1.
The fundraiser advanced Prideindex.com's fourth annual Esteem Awards ceremony, scheduled for July 2 at the Park West, 322 W. Armitage. Saturday's event featured live entertainment and the announcement of its 2010 Esteem Award honorees.
Honorees include individuals and organizations that go "above and beyond" to support the LGBT and African-American communities nationwide.
"These awards are meant to, not only honor the recipients, but also educate the public about the works of persons among the LGBT populace, which
often goes unnoticed. This year's honorees are people and institutions, like Vernita Gray, Equality Illinois, Baltimore Gay Life and the Chicago Reader, just to name a few. These folks really bring it when it comes to supporting our communities," said PrideIndex.com Editor Philip "Esteem" Fleming.
