On April 15, the Chicago Sky chose two key players from the past two women's national college basketball championship teamsSouth Carolina's Kamilla Cardoso and LSU's Angel Reesein the first round of the WNBA Draft.
The Sky took 6'7" Cardoso with the number-three pick and the 6'3" Reese at number seven. The Sky also chose Gonzaga guard Brynna Maxwell at number 13.
To no one's surprise, Iowa's Caitlin Clark went first in the draft, with the Indiana Fever selecting her.
''My first time playing Kamilla was one of the biggest stages of my life,'' Reese said, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. ''She played for Hamilton Heights and I played for St. Frances in high school, and we battled. Now being able to be teammates is going to be amazing.''
The Sky's training camp will be very competitive, with 14 players under contract and only 12 roster spots. General Manager Jeff Pagliocca signed three players to training-camp contracts, Maxwell will be competing against them for a spot on the final roster.
The Sky's season starts May 15, when the team visits the Dallas Wings. Chicago's first home game will be May 25 against the Connecticut Sun.
