Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison announces inaugural Cook County LGBTQ+ Youth Art Competition

Schaumburg, Ill. — April 9, 2024 — Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison recently announced the firs ever LGBTQ+ Youth Art Competition. The competition's theme is "Pride is Power!" and will set the ton for Pride celebrations in the month of June.

"I am proud to announce this inaugural event and cannot wait to see what the talented students across our many schools submit!" said Commissioner Kevin Morrison. "Some of the greatest strengths of the LGBTQ+ community are our creativity and endurance. It is my hope that the theme of this contest puts these qualities on full display."

"I am excited to kick off Cook County's first-ever LGBTQ+ art competition for youth alongside my colleagues Commissioners Kevin Morrison and Maggie Trevor." said Commissioner Anthony Quezada. "This year's celebration of Pride Month calls on the artistic talents and resilient spirit of LGBTQ+ youth, and we are thrilled to showcase their expression and power through this competition."

"By creating this competition, we're hoping to encourage participation in and representation of LGBTQ+ people in the arts, and to give recognition to young artists in our community," added Commissioner Maggie Trevor.

Anyone living in Cook County and attending high school or pursuing post-secondary education is eligible

to participate in the contest. Winners from each category will be honored at the Cook County Board's June Meeting.

Cook County Board Commissioners Maggie Trevor and Anthony Quezada, alongside Commissioner Morrison, shall serve as the judges of the competition.
