Former Howard Brown Health CEO and President David Munar will now head the Columbus, Ohio-based LGBTQ+ health provider Equitas.
Munar began his new position as Equitas CEO on April 1, Columbus Dispatch reported.
"I am honored for this chance to lead Equitas Health and work alongside its talented team and dedicated community partners," Munar said in a statement. "This organization fills a crucial role in the healthcare landscape. I look forward to exploring opportunities that will increase access to care for the communities we serve. Equitas Health will continue to champion their interests as we galvanize support for more compassionate and culturally competent healthcare across Ohio."
Munar will be the organization's first permanent CEO in two years. The previous CEO stepped down after allegations of racial discrimination at the organization.
Munar led Howard Brown through a decade of aggressive expansion before stepping down in February. Under his stewardship, the organization acquired its Federally Qualified Health Center status and opened a number of satellite offices, as well as a new building in Lake View. The organization, however, has had a number of labor-related issues in recent years.
Prior to his time at Howard Brown, Munar was president and CEO of AIDS Foundation of Chicago.
Kaarina Ornelas, chair of the Equitas Health board of trustees, said in a statement that, "David is a passionate leader who will help strengthen and grow the services we provide to preserve that legacy. We are confident that David's unique experiences and perspectives will help us enhance our standard of care and engagement on the issues that impact access to care for the communities we serve."
