CHICAGO — With just over a month before the March 19th primary election, prominent Chicago faith leaders will today release a letter—signed by over 100 religious leaders—endorsing the Bring Chicago Home campaign to restructure the Real Estate Transfer Tax to fund homelessness.
"As someone who grew up in the proud legacy of Chicago's Black church, I know what's possible when we galvanize ALL of Chicago. Bring Chicago Home proposes a visionary step toward addressing the homelessness crisis by creating a dedicated revenue stream for housing construction, rental subsidies, and essential services," said Bring Chicago Home Political Director Vaughn Roland. "Today we announce support from over 100 faith leaders representing various religions, communities and ethnicities who have signed our joint letter urging Chicago to vote YES on Ballot Question 1. Through the unity of these faith leaders across the city of Chicago we stand together in solidarity. We have the power to raise over $100 million annually to fund affordable housing and support services, ensuring that those in dire need find refuge and hope."
A press conference to be held Tuesday at the Chicago Early Voting Supersite, 191 N Clark St. will include the following speakers: Rev. Alvin Love (Lilydale First Baptist Church), Rev. Stephen Thurston (New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church), and BCH Political Director Vaughn Roland.
Over 100 religious leaders, including some of Chicago's most prominent names, have signed the letter urging all Chicagoans to vote YES on Ballot Question 1.
