Chicago, IL (December 8, 2023) The Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA) announced nominees for their top film honors of 2023; winners will be announced at the organization's annual awards ceremony to be held in Chicago on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Leading with ten total nominations each are Martin Scorsese's Killers Of The Flower Moon, Christopher Nolan's oppenheimer and Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things; other films earning multiple nominations include Barbie (Greta Gerwig, nine nods), and May December (Todd Haynes, seven). A complete list of nominees is below.
Composed of voting members who represent outlets including the Chicago Sun-Times, The New York Times, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, RogerEbert.com, The A.V. Club, Vulture, NPR, and many more, the Chicago Film Critics Association annually presents traditional awards including Best Picture, Director, Actor and Actress, among others. With a particular focus on emerging talents, the CFCA also presents breakthrough awards to both an actor and filmmaker with the most promise for future career achievements.
A reliably diverse voting body, the 2023 Chicago Film Critics Awards again honor a broad list of films and creators, with a total of 35 films nominated across nineteen categories. Of note this year are three actors with double nominations for their work: Charles Melton (May December) and Teo Yoo (Past Lives) are both nominated for Best Supporting Actor as well as Most Promising Performer, while Sandra Huller is nominated for Best Actress (Anatomy of a Fall) and Best Supporting Actress (The Zone of Interest).
