Police arrested 19-year-old Robert Davis, who they say shot and killed gay journalist/LGBTQ+-rights activist Josh Kruger in his home earlier this month, The Advocate reported, citing The Philadelphia Inquirer and other sources.
On Oct. 26, Davis surrendered without incident and was arrested at the home of his mother in south Philadelphia. Kruger, 39, had been shot several times in the chest and abdomen in the early morning hours of Oct. 2.
Authorities and Davis' family say the two men had a prior relationship, allegedly beginning when Davis was 15. Davis' mother has also claimed that Kruger was threatening to post sexually explicit videos of the youth online if he didn't comply with certain requests. However, she's also added that nothing excuses the circumstances surrounding Kruger's death.
Despite the allegations, Kruger has been remembered for his personal struggles in surviving homelessness, addiction and sex work. CNN noted that Kruger had recently covered issues such as LGBTQ+ rights, homelessness, HIV and addiction in publications like The Philadelphia Citizen and The Philadelphia Inquirer. One of his most recent stories was a tribute to Temple University President JoAnne Epps, who passed away in September.
