Peter Vamvakas of Forest Parka loving partner, son, brother, uncle, and frienddied Aug. 23. due to complications from an accident while vacationing in Key West, Florida. He was 60.
He was born in Chicago on April 4, 1963, to Jean and Constantine Vamvakas. Peter was a great companion to his husband and life partner of 22 years, Rob Abernathy, and a devoted caregiver for his mother, Jean.
Peter was a respected actor, director and acting coach, and was quite involved in the Chicago area acting community performing on stage as well as in movies and television shows. For many years, he performed internationally with the Chamber Opera Chicago. Peter took great pride in both leading acting classes for youth and coaching attorneys and medical professionals in their deliveries.
Peter and Rob traveled extensively in the U.S. and visited 12 countries during their travels. He could often be seen enjoying his daily walks around Forest Park and loved the time spent with his dogs, most recently his beloved schnauzer, Gus, who will miss him. Peter is survived by his life partner, Rob Abernathy, who now resides in St. Petersburg, Florida; his mother, Jean Vamvakas; a host of relatives in the U.S., Canada, and Greece; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Constantine Vamvakas, and brother, Fonda Vamvakas. Peter's kind spirit, dry humor and warm laugh will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
