10th Annual Black Alphabet Film Festival to take place Oct. 13-15

The 10th Annual Black Alphabet Film Festival (BAFF) will take place Oct. 13-15 in Chicago.

One of the longest running Black LGBTQ+/SGL film festivals in the world, this year's event includes more than 15 free film screenings and filmmaker discussions. There will also be a Uganda Freedom Celebration fundraiser featuring three films about the LGBTQ+ experience in Uganda as well as Ugandan entertainment, food and dancing.

The festival will open Oct. 13, 6-11 p.m., at Momentum Coffee, 2119 S. State St., featuring the sounds of CallMeJimme, KenChris and Storie Devereaux as well as a special preview performance by Pearl Troupe Chicago. The reception is free; people should RSVP at Website Link Here .

Free film-festival screenings will run 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Chatham Theater, 210 W. 87th St. Kokomo City—about the lives of four Black trans sex workers—will be screened at 1:30 p.m. Some of the other movies (including shorts) slated to be shown include Sunday's Child, Permissible Beauty, Why You Have To Be Black & Gay, Kevin, A Trip, The Dancer: The Beautiful and Tragic Life of Gerard Alexander, and A Little Piece of Heaven (the concluding film that will have a talkback after the showing).

On Oct. 15, the festival continues with a celebration to honor Uganda Americans who escaped persecution in their home country. The fundraiser and community event will take place at the ETA Creative Arts Foundation, 7558 S. South Chicago Ave., 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

On Oct. 3, Black Alphabet became one of the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame most recent inductees.
