Breanna Stewart won her second WNBA MVP award after a career-best scoring season in her first season with the New York Liberty, Yahoo! Sports reported.
The WNBA posted on X (formerly Twitter), "Stewie averaged 23.0 PPG, 9.3 RPG & 3.8 APG to lead the #2 @nyliberty to a 32-8 regular szn record & a Commissioner's Cup Championship in her 1st year with the franchise."
The two-time champion forward with the Seattle Storm signed with the Liberty in free agencyand led New York to a No. 2 seed in the playoffs.
In winning, the six-foot-four-inch Stewart edged Connecticut Sun forward Alyssa Thomas, who made triple-double history, and Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson, who won the 2022 award. Stewart earned 20 of the 60 first-place votes and 446 total points, while Thomas had 439 (while also tallying 23 first-place votes) and Wilson ended up with 433 (with 17 first-place votes).
Stewart is married to former WNBA and Spanish professional basketball player Marta Xargay Casademont.
