On June 10after one of her most dominant performances in yearsAmanda Nunes, considered the greatest women's fighter of all time, announced her retirement at UFC 289 in Vancouver, ESPN reported.
The now-former UFC fighter beat Irene Aldana (filling in for Julianna Pena, who broke her ribs) via unanimous decision in the main event of the pay-per-view card.
With the win, Nunes defended her UFC women's bantamweight title, and also was the UFC women's featherweight champion. With her retirement, both titles are presumably vacated.
When asked in the post-fight news conference what she hoped her legacy would be, Nunes answered being "the greatest of all time. I did everything. I broke a lot of records." Nuneswho is married to former UFC fighter Nina Nunes, and with whom she has a childsaid she plans on taking a long break and heading back to her native Brazil, adding that she herself has been dealing with nerve damage in both legs.
