SAVOR Celebrity Chef Ball; 'Chefsgiving'; Ralph's Coffee
2022-11-18

More than 50 top Chicago chefs—including many Michelin, James Beard, and Bib Gourmand awardees—worked together to create a truly unique experience for supporters of Meals on Wheels Chicago (MoWC).

Because of their hard work and the generosity of 400 guests at The Geraghty, the Celebrity Chef Ball (which took place Oct. 14) raised enough to provide 135,000 meals to food-insecure seniors and individuals with disabilities this holiday season.

The Celebrity Chef Ball drew some of Chicago's top culinary talent, including Brian Jupiter (Frontier/Ina Mae Tavern), Federico Comacchio (Gioia Ristorante), Aya Fukai (Aya Pastry), Esther Griego (Bittersweet Pastry Shop), Jared Wentworth (Moody Tongue), Andrew Zimmerman (Sepia/Proxi), Fabio Viviani (Siena Tavern/Bar Siena), Carlos Lucas Garza (Carnivale) and Troy Jorge (Temporis).

MoWC provides nutrition, independence, and dignity to low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities living in every neighborhood of the city, many of whom live on incomes below the poverty level. The program began in 1987 delivering 1,218 meals and now, in their 35th anniversary year, serves more than 4.7 million meals a year.

—For the seventh year running, Chef Bill Kim and Cornerstone Restaurant Group will host Chefsgiving the weekend before Thanksgiving—expanding the reach to Chicagoans across the city to become the biggest event yet by donating approximately 1,000 Thanksgiving meals to food-insecure individuals in Chicago. It will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Inspiration Kitchens.

In partnership with Inspiration Kitchens, Caviar and DoorDash (the first year partnering with the latter two companies), Kim and more than 35 Chicago chefs will prepare ready-to-eat meals that will be distributed to local shelters, free of cost.

Kim and friends will prepare hundreds of meals to be served at Inspiration Kitchens in East Garfield Park. Dozens of other chefs will each prepare 20 complete meals to be delivered to south and central locations via Caviar and DoorDash.

It's located inside the Ralph Lauren Flagship Store at 750 N. Michigan Ave., adjacent to RL Restaurant. Positioned on Chicago's Magnificent Mile, across from the historic Chicago Water Tower, the opening marks the city's first-ever Ralph's Coffee.

The shop will serve Ralph's Coffee special blends, espresso and teas, along with pastries, overnight oats, yogurts and some of Ralph Lauren's favorite sweet treats made fresh daily, including Ralph's Brownie and Ralph's Chocolate Chip Cookie.

The spot will be open Monday through Saturday at 8 a.m.-8 p.m. as well as Sunday at 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
