2022-10-03

CHICAGO, IL - The board of directors of Brave Space Alliance (BSA) has announced that BSA's founder, LaSaia Wade, will no longer serve as CEO of the organization, effective Oct. 3.

Board chair Channyn Lynne Parker stated: "We are grateful for the time and energy LaSaia dedicated toward making the organization what it is today. She will always be known as the founder of this vital community organization." Additional BSA board members include Tracy Baim, Kim L. Hunt, Lilly Wachowski and Michelle Zacarias.

The BSA staff have been informed and will continue operations under Jae Rice, who has been named interim CEO. The board will commence a CEO search immediately.

BSA is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ+ individuals on the South and West sides of the city. BSA strives to empower, embolden, and educate through mutual aid, knowledge-sharing, and the creation of community-sourced resources as it builds toward the liberation of all oppressed peoples.

Over the course of the last several years, BSA has continued to expand its reach throughout the community thanks to the ongoing support of individual contributors, organizational donors, and government grants. The organization will continue to make sustained growth its focus and priority.
