COVID CDC 'streamlines guidance'; new info for immunocompromised
2022-08-13

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a statement saying it is "streamlining its COVID-19 guidance to help people better understand their risk, how to protect themselves and others, what actions to take if exposed to COVID-19, and what actions to take if they are sick or test positive for the virus."

The CDC added, "This guidance acknowledges that the pandemic is not over, but also helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives."

The agency said, in light of this goal, it plans to, among other things:

—Continue to promote the importance of being up to date with vaccination to protect people against serious illness, hospitalization, and death;

—Update its guidance for people who are not up to date on COVID-19 vaccines on what to do if exposed to someone with COVID-19;

—Recommend that instead of quarantining if people are exposed to COVID-19, they wear high-quality masks for 10 days and get tested on day five; and

—Repeat that regardless of vaccination status, people should isolate from others when they have COVID-19.

Also, according to HIV.gov, the COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel has published a major update to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Treatment Guidelines.

Key changes in this version of the Guidelines include the addition of a new section titled "Special Considerations in People Who Are Immunocompromised." This section covers methods of preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection and discusses key considerations for clinicians who are managing patients with COVID-19 who are immunocompromised.
