Dan Wolf, owner of The Bagel, dies at 77

Dan Wolf, the longtime owner of the iconic The Bagel Restaurant & Deli, has died at age 77.

According to an obituary at legacy.com, Wolf was of the few child survivors of the infamous Theresienstadt concentration camp. He came to the United States at an early age with his family and started to help out at the original Bagel Restaurant in Albany Park that was started by his grandparents, Chaim and Elsa Golenzer, and his parents, Ruth and Edward Wolf.

In addition, he was active as local commissioner and president of the East Lakeview Chamber of Commerce.

Wolf is survived by Mitchell Kaufman, his companion and spouse of more than 60 years; his aunt, Haya Golenzer; and a host of friends who loved him. He was predeceased by his siblings Walter and Barbara. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a special fund in Wolf's memory at JCFS Chicago. A chapel service will take place Tuesday, July 5, 2:30 p.m. at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Rd., Arlington Heights. The interment will follow at Shalom Memorial Park.
