The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) removed 16 states from its weekly COVID-19 travel advisory on March 15.
Those states included Arizona, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
There are eight states with daily case rates below 15 today that could be removed from the advisory next week. However, according to CBS News, the BA.2 subvariant now composes nearly a quarter of new COVID-19 infections nationwidewhich could affect the advisory sooner rather than later.
The U.S. average daily case rate per 100,000 residents is 10.3 (12.7 last week). Illinois' current daily case rate is 9.6 (11.8 last week). Chicago's daily case rate is 4.9 (7.1last week).
