The Morrison-Shearer Foundation announced the recipients of two fully funded Sybil Shearer Fellowship residencies in the new Sybil Shearer Studio at Ragdale, in Lake Forest, Illinois.
The awardees are Chicago-based independent choreographer Nejla Yatkin and the dance company Deeply Rooted Dance Theater.
Yatkin has been awarded the first Sybil Shearer Fellowship in the new Sybil Shearer Studio at Ragdale to be held over 25 days in February and March. Later this summer, key personnel from Deeply Rooted Dance Theater will be immersed in an intensive week-long Themed Residency as they gather to collaborate, making use of the entire Ragdale campus.
The Morrison-Shearer Foundation will also support Chicago Dancemakers Forum as it begins a new chapter in its growth.
The studio provides dance artists with space for contemplative creativity and the opportunity to explore their practice within a group of other artists and writers, with housing and meals provided during their residency as well as a modest stipend for expenses.
