I am writing this letter to the editor to compliment Windy City Times on its recent article "Passing the torch: How generations of trans women approach activism, advocacy," by Max Lubbers.
The article highlights how the Chicago trans community's vision of a healthy movement speaks to the present situation. There is much wisdom in this article, and I would encourage especially people who are at their wit's end concerning the plague of systemic racism to also read this article. I would also encourage white gay men to read this article, so they could learn something about self-transformation.
I would encourage Windy City Times to run more articles like this one that genuinely begins to educate people, especially people of faith. This is the dilemma of one of our community organizations that were tasked to organize the Pride Parade: how to pass the torch of leadership in a way that's devoid of racism.
Sincerely, I hope trans women involve themselves in this year's Pride leadership. They have so much to contribute to our culture and leadership.
Hat's off to Windy City Times Executive Editor Andrew Davis, Managing Editor Matt Simonette and Max Lubbers.
