THEATER 'Wicked' returning to Chicago in 2022

The blockbuster musical Wicked will return to Broadway In Chicago's James M. Nederlander Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St., on Sept. 28-Dec. 4, 2022.

Now the fifth longest-running show in Broadway history—and featuring songs such as "Popular" and "Defying Gravity"—Wicked is the winner of more than 100 international awards, including the Grammy Award and three Tony Awards.

Since opening in 2003, Wicked has been performed in more than 100 cities in 16 countries around the world (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, Germany, Holland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, The Philippines, Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland and China) and has been translated into six languages: Japanese, German, Dutch, Spanish, Korean and Portuguese.

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Tony winner Joe Mantello with musical staging by Tony winner Wayne Cilento.

Performances will be Tuesday through Friday at 7:30 p.m. (with Wednesday matinees at 2 p.m). Saturday performances will be at 2 and 8 p.m; Sunday performances will be at 2 p.m., with an additional performance on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. There will be no performances on Thursday, Nov. 24, but there will be an additional performance on Friday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m.

Ticket availability will be announced at a later date.
