According to Politico Playbook, Chicago Ald. Pat Dowell (3rd Ward) is exploring the possibility of running for secretary of state.
I know I can build on the work that Secretary [of State Jesse] White has done and take the office to what I think will be a new level," Dowell said. Reportedly, she has talked with White, Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle about running for statewide office.
White is retiring after this term.
Serious contenders to succeed White include former state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and City Clerk Anna Valencia.
According to Ballotpedia, Dowell assumed office in 2007 and her current term ends May 15, 2023.
