A social-media account called GaysOverCovid has been exposing the gay men of the world for continuing their hard-partying, jet-setting lifestyles in the midst of a pandemic, according to media outlets such as DListed.com.
For instance, Chicago-based influencer Sam Cushing was called out for telling his followers to stay at home, although he was later caught partying in Mexico with friend Jake Grez. (People even used Venmo to say that Cushing was in Mexico.)
SFist.com reported that Mike Schultza San Francisco nurse who posted photos of himself last May as a warning to others about how COVID-19 had ravaged his bodyposted online about attending a gay circuit event in Mexico over the New Year's Eve holiday.
Los Angeles-based promoter Jeffrey Sanker, the founder of the White Party in Palm Springs, went ahead with the event after selling thousands of tickets and relocating it to the nearby community of Nuevo Vallarta after Puerto Vallarta shut it down.
People have reportedly become so intent to discover who's behind GaysOverCovid that money has been offered to out the person(s) behind the account.
Last year, Windy City Times asked Cushing what he thought about images on social media of what appeared to be LGBTQ individuals on Chicago beaches ignoring the rules of social distancing. He said, "So, obviously my message is to mostly distance where you can. Granted, everyone has their own journey with COVID, and we all have our own level of comfort. It's just a matter of understanding that we're a collective society. And as much as we are trained to think like individuals in the U.S., it is the right thing to do to look out for each other."
Windy City Times reached out to Cushing for comment about Puerto Vallarta. He had not responded at the time of this article's publication.
