2020-10-17

Local singer-songwriter Jeannie Tanner has released her new single and video, "I Wanna Be the Change."

According to a press release, the song was inspired by many of the speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The pop/R&B composition features Tanner along with vocalists LaShera Moore Ellis and Sophie Grimm. Tanner wrote the music, lyrics and produced the track.

Tanner also stated, "'I Wanna Be the Change' is a timely message song, focusing on how we, individually, need to be the change—but come together, to be the change."

The video was filmed around Chicago and features public artwork such as the Northalsted murals "The Love I Vibrate" ( at 3245 N. Halsted St., and by LGBTQA artists Sandra Antongiorgi, Andy Bellomo and Sam Kirk ) and "Resist" ( at 3522 N. Halsted St., and by Keith Smith AKA Afrokilla ); Northalsted sculpture #AmazingForAll ( at the corner of Halsted Street and Newport Avenue, and by Matthew Hoffman ); and the mosaic "Indian Land Dancing" ( at Foster Avenue and Lake Shore Drive, and by Tracy Van Duinen, Todd Osborne and Cynthia Weiss in collaboration with Chicago Public Art Group ).
