Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairothe brothers who allegedly took part in what police say was a staged Jan. 29 hate-based attack on actor Jussie Smollettissued a statement expressing "tremendous regret" for their involvement, WGNTV.com reported.
"They understand how it has impacted people across the nation, particularly minority communities and especially those who have been victims of hate crimes themselves," said the brothers' attorney, Gloria Schmidt.
The statement read, "My clients have tremendous regret over their involvement in this situation, and they understand how it has impacted people across the nation, particularly minority communities and especially those who have been victims of hate crimes themselves."
Authorities claim Smollett hired the Osundairo brothers and paid them $3,500 to stage the attack. The Empire actor is due back in court March 14.
