These days animals are being left at shelters at alarming rate. The start of the holiday season is a great time to consider adopting an animal or attending an event in support of all the wonderful agencies that help give homeless animals forever homes.
Here are some upcoming events:
—Thursday, Dec. 3, 4-7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 6, 12-5 p.m. Santa photos at Doggy Style Pet Shop, 2023 W. Division, Chicago. Get your pet's photo taken with Santa and help shelter dogs. With a $10 donation to ALIVE Rescue your pet will have a private sitting with Santa, receive a print of the photo and an email of a digital copy. RSVP at 773-235-9663.
—Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 5-6: Paws Chicago's Annual 36 Hour Adopt-A-Thon, 1997 N. Clybourn. More than 130 dogs and cats were saved during last year's Adopt-A-Thon weekend. —Saturday, Dec. 12, 12-3 p.m.: Jingle Pups in Andersonville. Check out the Jingle Puppies in the courtyard next to White Attic, 5225 N. Clark. These charming dogs—some dressed like holiday elves—will be collecting pocket change. Of course, they'll be spreading holiday cheer, too. —Saturday, Dec. 12, 3-8 p.m.: The 10th Annual Lights of Love Open House and Lighting Ceremony, Tree House Uptown, 1212 W. Carmen. Features include delicious vegetarian food, live music and the illumination of the lights; guided shelter tours; presentations by veterinarians; an animal communicator and animal behaviorist; a silent auction; unique holiday merchandise; a bake sale; and arts & crafts.
