On Saturday, May 2, approximately 3,000 dogs gathered with their owners at Montrose Harbor for The Anti-Cruelty Society's 15th Annual Bark in the Park. The 5K walk—with or without a dog—was a day of fun and excitement for all.
Chester, a cocker spaniel adopted from The Anti-Cruelty Society, started the race with his owner, board member Jerry Hagerty. The day allotted for perfect weather as walkers enjoyed the 3.2-mile course along the lake.
At the stage, ABC 7's Hosea Sanders and Roz Varon, as well as Bart Shore from WBBM, and certified dog- and cat-behavior consultant Steve Dale, welcomed everyone to Bark in the Park and helped announce the activities and prizes for the day. Bart, Roz, and Steve even brought their dogs. U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., also stopped by to support the cause.
On stage, dogs and their owners took part in the Doggie Fashion Show, Cute Pet Tricks and Pet-Owner Lookalike contests. Others went to the activity tent to play games, and get doggie tattoos and stamp paw prints. Most dogs even tried the dog-agility course, sponsored by Hawk City K9.
After the walk, Integrative Pet Care gave massages to the dogs, while Juvenesse Spa gave massages to the owners. Also, animal intuitive Denise Zak helped people find out what their dogs are really thinking. Kevin Landis drew charity pet portraits for event participants.
Even the pledge teams were excited: Hot Dogs Chicago Style ( The Chicago Dachshund Lovers group ) did a great job and rose over $12,500 in pledges to help The Anti-Cruelty Society. This makes the third year in a row that this group has won.
Bark in the Park 15 was a huge success. All proceeds from Bark in the Park will help The Anti-Cruelty Society continue it's mission to keep providing services and support for animals in need. For information about next year's Bark in the Park, on May 1, 2010 please call 312-644-8338, ext. 319.

PET FOR ADOPTION
Chata is an amazing-looking 10-year-old kitty! She has beautiful long fur that is fluffy and full—and her eyes are absolutely gorgeous.
Chata is a very affectionate girl who loves people and adores attention. She is sweet, gentle and calm, and came to the shelter when someone in her family became allergic to her. Chata would make a fantastic addition to any family, including one with children. Being such a furry girl, Chata will need regular brushing to keep her looking beautiful, but we are sure she will love every minute of the attention. Won't you come and meet Chata? She's waiting for you at The Anti-Cruelty Society; just ask for Tab Band #682573.
