Youth Pride Center, 637 S. Dearborn, will pay homage to African-Americans by holding the 1st Annual Chicago Same Gender Loving Film Festival.
A variety of movies from the past and present will be shown throughout February, Black History Month. In addition, members of a different organization will speak at each showing.
The schedule is as follows:
—Feb. 7: Brother to Brother, 7 p.m. ( Chicago Black Gay Men's Caucus )
—Feb. 8: Norman, Is That You?, 12 and 8:30 p.m. ( Sankofa Way )
—Feb. 10: Ski Trip, 3 p.m. ( Taskforce Prevention and Community Services )
—Feb. 15: Looking for Langston, 12 and 8:30 p.m. ( ADODI Chicago )
—Feb. 16: Punks, 2 and 8 p.m. ( Windy City Black Pride )
—Feb. 17: On the Down Low ( GAMBA )
—Feb. 18: Wigstock, 2 p.m. ( Youth Empowerment Center )
—Feb. 18: Strange Fruit, 6 p.m. ( The Sanctuary )
—Feb. 21: Tongues Untied, 2 and 7 p.m. ( Affinity Community Services )
—Feb. 24: Noah's Arc ( TV show ) , Season One, 6 p.m. ( followed by a pot luck dinner, performances and guest speakers )
All shows are free and open to the general public. Doors open 30 minutes prior to screening.
In addition, there will be a Black Same-Gender-Loving Library dedication ceremony on Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. and the Legends Black Gay History Gala on Feb. 26. The latter event will be held at Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center, 1060 E. 47th, and will honor leaders such as Chicago Department of Public Health's Lora Branch; entrepreneurs Pat & Vera; trans activist Lois Bates; and others.
