Youth Pride Center ( YPC ) , an organization that primarily helps Black LGBT youths, has debuted a new quarterly magazine, Frankie.
The 20-page publication is named after YPC founder and director Frank Walker. However, he wants to make one thing clear: He did not come up with the magazine's name. ' [ The name ] is not my choice. [ The youths ] have been trying to name something after me, and I kept saying no—but I agreed to this,' Walker said. 'They wanted to everyone to get a piece of what's at YPC, and we all have Frankie in common, so they said, 'Let's just call it Frankie.''
Walker added that the publication will be distributed primarily in the South and West sides of the city, but will also be at the YPC, which is currently located at 637 S. Dearborn. ( In three years, the center is slated to relocate. )
Walker also said that the publication's goal is to educate. 'We want to show people on the South Side that we're just like you,' he said.
YPC also has a newsletter called The Movement. See www.youthpridecenter.org .
