Once again, it's time for Pubert's favorite things. The holidays can be a time where people start packing on the pounds. The turkeys are not the only things getting stuffed in the kitchen. In Chicago it can be especially challenging to not be lazy with the cold weather and staying inside.
After hanging with Jackie Warner and hitting the big 4-0 this year, I realized that my metabolism is not getting any faster. The best gift I could give those around me was to start taking care of myself.
It's important to have good support on your feet when you work out. Kuru shoes sport a good midsole to cushion your heels. Step it up and visit www.kurufootwear.com for ordering information.
How many times have you been in the locker room and you can't see the forest for the trees? Mangroomer has an extension for those hard-to-reach places. Their slogan "Maintain Yourself" is what this column is all about. Don't worry, bears, shaving does not make the hair grow back thicker! Pick up the handy-dandy Mangroomer at www.mangroomer.com .
Remember that time in band camp when your hand was put in a bowl of cold water? Bex Runner offers a way to keep cool with a device that you wear on your hand and keep in your freezer. Strap it on before you go for that work out and it relaxes your body temperature. www.betterexerciseexperience.com will make for a longer run on the treadmill.
I like a home gym so I don't go out in the cold. I bought a cheap treadmill at Walmart, an exercise ball and some weights. My inner Jane Fonda can get really motivated in front of a television in the comfort of my own home. Although many of my friends believe in motivation by hot bodies and prefer XSport or Bally Total Fitness for their eye candy and equipment.
I believe the important part is to find out what works for you. Start today, don't wait around until it's summer 2011 and you can't fit into the banana hammock on Hollywood Beach. If you are a little too in tune with the Santa belly then get out there, start circuit training and Ho ho ho!!!
To feel the heat, pump up the volume to 105 degrees with Bikram Yoga Chicago with locations in Wicker Park and Lincoln Park. For info visit www.105f.com .
