On July 30, U.S. Soccer announced that Jill Elliswho won her second Women's World Cup as head coach of the U.S. women's national team for the second consecutive tournamentis stepping down from her post.
Ellis has coached the team since 2014, leading it to eight overall tournament titles, including victories at the World Cup in 2015 ( over Japan ) and earlier this month in France ( over the Netherlands ).
According to ESPN.com, Ellis will remain with the team for a World Cup victory tour, which starts Saturday, Aug. 3, with a match against Ireland at the Rose Bowl. Following the conclusion of the five-match tour in October, she will be a U.S. Soccer ambassador.
Also, Ellis will spend more time with her wife, Betsy Stephenson, with whom she has a 14-year-old daughter, Lily.
