Clark's on Clark hosted the end-of-season All-Star Tournament for the Chicago Women's 8 Ball League. Sixteen women competed for cash prizes in this annual single-elimination tournament. The one big upset of the tournament occurred early on when fifteenth seed and new-comer Tami eliminated league coordinator Gomez, who was seeded second. Four players representing Clark's participated, however, only Terry made it to the semi-finals where she was bested by Ramona from Spyner's. The men of Clark's went far and above to show their love and appreciation to all their 'sisters' by not only feeding them dinner, but John also baked three cakes ( all decorated like pool balls ) and Stevie and Aaron ensured that the drinks flowed with their unique flair.
The championship game was a battle between women who normally sit on the same side of the table during the regular season where they both play for Spyner's. Ramona made some excellent shots, but Punchy was ultimately victorious.
The league plans to send the All-Star champs of 2006 to the Gay Games.
Gay Hockey at Wolves
The Chicago Gay Hockey Association ( CGHA ) invades the Allstate Arena April 16 for a game before the last regular-season Chicago Wolves game.
The CGHA team, known as the Black wolves, is the only predominantly gay adult hockey team in the Chicago area. They will face the Chicago Whalers, starting at 3 p.m. The CGHA plays its regular-season games in the Rolling Meadows senior men's league, with games at both Rolling Meadows rinks and the new ice rink in Hoffman Estates.
Chicago is one of several major cities with a gay hockey team. Los Angeles, Boston, Pittsburgh, Denver and Seattle also have gay hockey teams. New York City is the model, as the Big Apple now features five teams in a gay hockey league.
The CGHA's next game is April 3, against the Slashing Pumpkins. Game time is 8:30 p.m., at the West Meadows Ice Rink in Rolling Meadows. For more information on the CGHA, or to order tickets to the CGHA game at the Allstate Arena, which includes admission to the Wolves game that day: ( 773 ) 968-7474. See www.ChicagoGayHockey.org .
