With End of TPS for Salvadorans, Trump Continues Anti-Immigrant Agenda

Washington, D.C. - Just now, news broke that President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security will not renew the Temporary Protected Status ( TPS ) designation that has allowed the Salvadorans to remain in the United States since at least 2001, when their country was struck by a pair of devastating earthquakes. Individuals will have until September 2019 to leave or seek other means to obtain lawful residency. Cesar Vargas, Esq. co-director of the Dream Action Coalition issued the following statement:
"The decision to end TPS is inhumane as we are pulling out the rug from under the thousands of immigrants who built rich lives and successful businesses in the United States. While the protection was temporary, the U.S. essentially established a de facto permanent status by continuing to extend the protection over the past decade. President Trump has sided with the misguided advice of some of the most anti-imimgrant hardliners of his administration. Congress must now include permanent protection not just for the Dreamers but also to the Salvadorans, Hondurans, Haitians, Nicaraguans who have lost TPS and our 11 million undocumented neighbors."
