Windy City Media Group—the publishers of Windy City Times, Nightspots and Identity as well as the producers of Windy City Radio—joins millions of podcasters with the launch of Windy City Queercast.
Windy City Queercast ( WCQ ) is the new name for Windy City Radio, a 10-year-old weekly gay program that aired on Sunday nights on WCKG 105.9 FM—and what is formerly known as the award-winning AM program LesBiGay Radio. The move 'off the air and on the net' with hosts Amy Matheny and Peter Mavrik to podcasting expands the reach to the GLBT community by adding a more interactive and savvy media outlet.
Airing twice a week, WCQ covers a variety of subjects ranging from entertainment and politics to movies and breaking GLBT-related news. As a measure of how far the queercast has already come, WCQ has shown great success uncommon in the podcasting world by landing high-profile sponsors such as Bud Light, American Airlines, Broadway in Chicago and LaSalle Bank.
'Podcasting—or in our case, queercasting—allows GLBT voices and stories to access people nationwide and around the world,' said co-host Amy Matheny. 'Radio has always been a special medium for the community, bringing a very human quality to our lives. The human voice is powerful. Plus, with queercasting, listeners can hear us anytime they are on their computer by simply clicking a button, and they can subscribe to our show for free. By subscribing, each new show automatically downloads to your computer or MP3 player. So you can listen in you car, on the train, while jogging, you name it.'
Mavrik and Matheny serve as WCQ's co-hosts. Regular contributors include 'Lenox the Intern,' Jerry Nunn ( who will mention hot upcoming events ) , Richard Knight, Jr. ( with his Knight at the Movies ) , and weekly pint-sized political pundit Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre from the Chicago company of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee ( as portrayed by actress Christine Werny ) .
In addition, WCQ has a popular MySpace account at MySpace.com/WindyCityQueercast. Also, be on the lookout for upcoming Queercast parties at popular nightspots and clubs.
